Cleaning an empty home is easier than cleaning a lived-in one, but it's also where small misses show. A landlord or buyer walking through will see smudged switch plates and dusty baseboards just as quickly as a dirty stove.
Start with the kitchen: clean inside and outside the oven, refrigerator and microwave, wipe cabinets inside and out and scrub the sink and counters. Pull out drawers and shelves to wipe away crumbs.
Bathrooms: scrub the tub or shower, toilet, sink and mirrors, remove soap scum and limescale from fixtures and wipe cabinets and drawers. Don't forget exhaust fans.
Every room: dust ceiling fans, vents and light fixtures, wipe baseboards, door frames, windowsills and light switches, clean inside closets and spot-clean scuffs from walls.
Finish with floors — vacuum carpets, then sweep and mop hard surfaces, working toward the door so you don't walk over clean areas.
