How Often Should You Clean Your Home?

September 10, 2026 Crisma Maids

There's no single schedule that fits every household. A home with kids, pets or allergies needs more attention than a quiet apartment for one. Still, a simple rhythm keeps most homes comfortable without taking over your weekend.

Daily: wipe kitchen counters and the stovetop, wash dishes, sweep or spot-vacuum high-traffic floors and take out the trash. These small habits stop mess from building up.

Weekly: vacuum carpets and rugs, mop hard floors, clean bathrooms — toilets, sinks, mirrors and showers — dust surfaces and change bed linens. These are the jobs a standard cleaning covers, and they are the most popular reason families set up a weekly or bi-weekly visit.

Monthly: wipe baseboards and door frames, clean inside the microwave, wash windows and mirrors, and dust vents, ceiling fans and light fixtures. Many people skip these until they become a bigger project.

Seasonally or twice a year: a deep clean — grout, behind and under furniture, inside cabinets and appliances. A deep clean is also a good reset before a holiday, after a long winter or when you're starting a regular cleaning plan.

If you'd rather spend your time elsewhere, Crisma Maids offers weekly, bi-weekly, monthly and one-time visits across Maryland, DC and Northern Virginia. Call (202) 684-1220 for a free estimate.
